UPDATE:
WE had the first part of the renovation at the abandoned jewish cemetery of Tállya, Hungary!!
Let me share some pictures from the 2-days volunteer action that we would like to continue in October. During the renovation we even uncovered some very rare, and unique sephardic style tombstones that were covered by grass and soil before! We started to get rid off the dangerous bushes and braches, cut the grass and the weed, and clean the tombstones, but there’s still much to do.

This tiny church, also referred to as the Church of the Dead, is located in the small town of Urbania Italy. As soon as visitors enter through the Baroque doorway of the church, they are brought into the chapel, known as the mummy cemetery. Here you can see 18 mummies standing in individual glass cases that have been on display since 1833.
You can also find information on cause of death for each of the mummies. For example, one of the mummies was murdered, one died during labor, and one died due to heart failure.
The Brotherhood of Good Death, a group founded more than 400 years ago in 1567, is responsible for the mummy display. The originals goals of the brothers were to provide free burial for the dead and keep a record of the deaths.
